Mickey Mouse and company will set out for a new adventure and will need to pack a suitcase since Donald, Minnie and Pluto, are landing in China.

After a decade of long and tortuous negotiations, the Chinese government has finally given its approval this week for a state of the art Disney theme park to be build in Shanghai.

Walt Disney Company now has the permission its first theme park in mainland China. This will be the entertainment giant’s fourth outside America after Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

Hong Kong government officials have claimed that the new mainland China attraction will not compete with their venue. The Hong Kong Disney Park was launched in 2005.

While the final details still need to be carefully crafted, the project’s initial phase is said to be a Magic Kingdom-style park in China’s largest city and main financial hub. It’s been suggested that the amusement attraction would be designed specifically to cater to the Shanghai region.

The announcement arrives only a few weeks before American president Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Shanghai and 10 year after an endless series stalled negotiations between the Chinese government and the entertainment company.

Robert Iger, Disney president and CEO said that China has become one of the most dynamic, exciting and important nations in the world, adding that the approval celebrates a key milestone for the Walt Disney Company in the country.

Budget and construction details have yet to announced for the huge project but figures of £2.17bn for a 4-square-mile venue have been rumoured.
