Sandals Resorts Racks up at the World Travel Awards Caribbean Ceremony
Tiffany PhillipsIt seems that Sandals Resorts has proven that it reigned supreme at the World Travel Awards Caribbean Ceremony by picking up nine awards. Out of these awards it won the Caribbean’s Leading Hotel Brand and the Caribbean’s Leading Family All Inclusive awards.
It also seem that regional awards were held for South America, Asia, Indian Ocean, and Australia at the ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House. These award ceremonies are normally referred to as the Oscars for the travel and tourism industry, thus, these awards tend to be a very big deal.
Of course, in the South America categories, Brazil was able to sweep the board. Copacabana Palace won South America’s Leading Hotel, and Discover Brazil was able to pick up South America’s Leading Travel Agency. Reports also showed that TAM Airlines was able to be named South America’s Leading Airline.
Overall, nearly 3,000 travel companies were nominated in over 200 different categories. A total of 750 senior management decision makers came together to celebrate this prestigious ceremony. The World Travel Awards president, Graham Cooke, said that the past 12 months have brought several different challenges to the travel and tourism industry. This includes such things at the economic downturn and the outbreak of the swine flu. These two things played a role in making this one of the hardest years for travel and tourism companies to be able to shine. Thus, the companies that won awards were still able to go above and beyond the call of duty despite these factors playing against them.
