Vacation rentals: 2010’s great demand
Stewart PerryAccording to HomeAway, Inc., the popularity of holiday rental homes still continues to grow among vacationer into the next year.
The vacation home specialist, which is the leading web-based holiday rental marketplace in the world, just released its quarterly HomeAway Vacation Rental Marketplace Report.
The said that 87% of customers who used a vacation rental home before now say they will do the same in 2010. This figure represents an important rise from the 2009 numbers which revealed that 67% had answered affirmatively to the same question the previous year.
The company said that 75 percent of holidaymakers who rented or will rent a vacation home in 2009 had at one time stayed in a holiday rental. First-time renters represented 25 percent.
According to chief executive officer of HomeAway Brian Sharples, these figures revealed the level of satisfaction experienced by the customers.
Sharples said that the recession has spurred a jump in demand since some travellers are looking for deals. Holiday rentals are also attractive for many first-time house renters who are also searching for greater value.
He added that company believes this trend with continue as the economy improves, as consumer habits appear to be changing.
It’s been said that 28% of travelers in the US say the economic environment won’t affect their 2010 plans in regards to vacations, although most holidaymakers will search ways reduce their vacation bills.
In a survey, HomeAway asked people how the economy would impact their 2010 holiday plans:
41% plan to search for deals and special offers on holiday rentals
40 % plan to stay in a holiday rental home in order to save money or split on the price of accommodations
21% will search for hotel specials
17% will stay at an accommodation within driving distance from home
7% will take short vacations
