After Huge Rainstorms In Scotland Comes The Snow

After the rain, here comes the snow. Much of the northern part of the UK has been battered with sever weather recently and if predictions are correct, it’s not finished.

The Met Office has announced that it’s expecting that much of Scotland will receive some important snow falls by this coming Wednesday, interrupting the rebuilding efforts in places that were severely damaged by plenty of rain only a week ago.

Close to the border, the rain badly affected the Whitesands area in Dumfries, with many properties experiencing severe flooding after rivers overflowed their banks and drainage systems were not able to handle the excessive waters stemming from the rainstorms.

Residents of the area received sandbags from the local council to attempt and prevent further damage. On Saturday, a woman escaped tragedy when she was rescued from at the edge of a cliff by a helicopter after being stranded because of the unprecedented weather conditions in the region.

A friend of the lady had called authorities after she had slipped and suffered an injury to her leg on the 120ft high cliff located in Colvend, near Dalbeattie.

Upon arrival, rescuers had found it impossible to reach her because of the harsh weather conditions at the time. An RAF King helicopter was sent in and brought her to a Dumfries hospital.

South of the Border in Cumbria, Cockermouth Council is bracing for a six-month waiting period before allowing local residents to return to their homes.

As far as the predicted snow, the MET has said that it may continue right until the weekend.

It said that some areas may see temperatures dip to six degrees. The news is not encouraging for people in Scotland as six flood warnings were still in place across the nation as of last night, with more downpours expected.
