Ryanair Is Britain’s Worst Family Brand
Budget carrier Ryanair has been called the worst “family brand” in Britain in a study which gave a ranking to the largest and best-known firms in the country.
According to the FamilyBrands survey, the low-cost carrier has the image of a company that does little to promote family values as well as one which does not pay much attention to its customers. Its extra hidden costs are not helping the carrier’s cause. It’s been criticised for a £5 extra fee for credit card ticket purchases.
The FamilyBrands study involved the participation of 1,500 Britons who ranked about 100 famous UK companies and other entities for criteria such as social responsibility and how they treat families.
Ryanair was named the worst ‘family-friendly’ brand while the top marks went to retailers Marks & Spencer, with the Co-op, Boots and Kellogg’s coming in respectable third, fourth and fifth spot respectively.
Other bad family brands were exposed as Royal Bank of Scotland, Twitter and PlayStation.
The survey also revealed that the airline industry in general proved to be the worst for families while the retail sector was demonstrated as being the best. Other carriers ranked really low included British Midland and its offshoot BMI Baby as well as EasyJet.
The junk food sector experienced a bit of a dichotomy; fast food providers such as Burger King and Domino’s were ranked low on the list but chocolate icon Cadbury received good marks and ended up in the top ten.
Commissioned by advertising agency Isobel, the survey also ranked political parties. The caring image of Tory leader David Cameron put the Conservative party in 26th place. Meanwhile, the Liberal party grabbed the 33rd spot but the Labour party saw itself in 52nd position.
