Hollywood actor Antonio Banderas has announced that he is planning to build a hotel on his northern Spanish property to ramp up production at his vineyard.

The revelations from the film star came during an interview which was published last Sunday.

Banderas explained to the El Mundo weekly magazine’s weekend supplement that he wants to revitalise his property with corporate events such as conferences giving examples of  wine and literature events, and aims at promoting the destination for wine tourism.

He added that they were currently considering the option of a small hotel at the vineyard in order to welcome wine enthusiasts because. He qualified his property as being marvelous.

Appearing in the Oscar-winning film “Philadelphia” and providing the voice-overs for the character of Puss In Boots in many “Shrek” animated cartoons, the 49-year-old Banderas purchased 50 percent of the state-of-the-art winery which is located on the beautiful shores of the Duero River. He has been involved with project since last March.

Called Anta Banderas, the 250 hectare (620 acre) estate produces varieties of red and rose wines by using grapes of the variety of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a local grape called Tempranillo.

The vineyard produces about 600,000 bottles of wine every year, but the Hollywood actor said the estate has the potential to make two million bottles without any loss in quality.

Bandera said that after this quantity, the vineyard would require an expansion. He said that before going ahead with such a move, the new wine makers need to initially stabilise themselves in the Spanish and European markets followed by the American market.
