Another Ship For Carnival
Dave BondThe recent confirmation of an order of a new 4,000-passenger ship for the Carnival Corporation has been seen as a boost for the cruise industry.
The large vessel will be the third in Carnival’s Dream class of ships and it will take its position in Carnival Cruise Lines brand.
Currently, Carnival Corporation has 13 new cruise ships on order all due to be delivered between January 2010 and the spring of 2012.
Rival cruise companies are expected to emulate the move, with MSC Cruises and Princess Cruises as the two likeliest companies to order new ships.
The Carnival purchase confirmation arrives as cruise industry organisation the Passenger Shipping Association expects that the UK cruise market will experience a 2010 upturn of 1.65m passengers.
Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri will construct the new 130,000-ton ship which is scheduled for a spring 2012 launch.
Carnival’s new ship promises to have the capacity to carry 3,960 passengers on board and will also feature several of Carnival Dream’s facilities. Dream was launched in September.
These features include a water park, a spa, an entertainment area as well as an outdoor promenade.
Fincantieri is already in the process of building Carnival Magic, Carnival Dream’s sister vessel which is scheduled to be operational in May 2011.
According to Carnival Cruise Lines’ president and chief executive Gerry Cahill, Carnival Dream is currently receiving rave reviews from both travel agents and guests.
Cahill said that Carnival’s Dream class of ships symbolises the evolution of the famous cruise brand by providing the kind of entertainment combined with the affordable sea holiday that consumers are seeking today.
