Flybe Top Domestic UK Airline
Abi BrayThe latest traffic figures from UK CAA have been released and reveal that more than fifty percent of all domestic flights within the UK are being operated by Flybe alongside its sibling company-partner Loganair.
In second place, EasyJet came in equal with the BMI group, as UK flagship carrier British Airways lagged far behind with a fourth place ranking.
Within one decade, Flybe has evolved from Jersey European and British European days to become an annual seven million passenger domestic carrier.
The small budget air travel provider launched in 1998 with less than two million passengers has added a capacity of five million passengers since its modest start.
Since the beginning of 2003, yearly average load factors have changed between 70 and 60 percent. In light of the economic downturn experienced in 2009, the number of passengers has decreased by about six percent every month, although the airline has managed to keep most of its stability in terms of capacity.
According to an anna.aero analysis of the Flybe network figures, load factors were the strongest in Southampton with Manchester, Belfast City, Birmingham, and London Gatwick Airport following behind.
At the present moment, the carrier uses London Gatwick as its secondary hub, based on its weekly seating capacities. The carrier upped its number of air links originating from the London airport from seven to ten destinations, although Southampton remains by far Flybe’s largest hub with a total of 21 routes.
