UK’s biggest airline moves in Yorkshire
Helen YoungEasyJet, the biggest airline in Britain, is scheduled to launch its Robin Hood airport operations in the spring.
The facility has recently experienced uncertainty after its owner, Peel Holdings, had announced in October it was looking to unload some of the stakes its airports division.
Winter forecasts had also predicted winter gloom, especially after the carrier’s main rival Ryanair cancelled its popular Dublin route out the airport claiming operational costs were too high.
But easyJet deciders revealed yesterday the launch of 21 new routes starting on April 19 and forecasted increase business rates in the double digits over the next year.
Peel Holdings senior executives, Robin Hood airport management as well as officials from tourist organisation Welcome to Yorkshire met yesterday to greet an easyJet aircraft at the facility.
Barcelona, Amsterdam, Faro, Palma and Prague will all be destinations served by the carrier which, according to easyJet bosses offer a great mix of sunshine and urban style destinations.
EasyJet UK regional general manager Paul Simmons, said that the airline can now tap in to the Yorkshire catchment area by operating flights from the Robin Hood airport.
These also include important urban communities such as Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster, Hull, Worksop and Wakefield.
With more than 40 weekly flights, easyJet selection of destinations is believed to attract both leisure and the business travellers.
Additionally, the airline is looking to develop and promote the inbound market by presenting Yorkshire as a great destination for Europeans, thus contributing to the expansion of the region and its economy.
