A coach crash in the southwest of England has resulted in the death of two people as well as injuries sustained by 47 passengers, as snow and ice all over the European continent continue to generate unprecedented mayhem in the transport infrastructures.

The fully loaded bus, carrying people coming back from a Tuesday night trip to view Christmas lights, overturned on icy Cornwall roads.

Several important southern England roads were closed following rainfall on sub zero surfaces.

Because of severe weather conditions, a Ryanair jet slid off during landing at an airport in Scotland on Wednesday, although the incident had not resulted in any injuries.

As for the Eurostar rail service, it is ongoing its clearing process to go through the important backlog of travellers following three days of suspension stemming from mechanical breakdowns due to melting snow causing electrical problems on the rolling stock.

The stop to the service resulted in thousands of passengers being trapped in trains which were inside the tunnel as well as 50,000 people having their trips postponed.

The Channel Tunnel service, normally high-speed, was brought to a shuddering halt on Friday.

Arctic conditions are their impact on mainland Europe, with accidents being reported on Italian roads. However, most airports in the country have now returned to normalcy following 3 days of cancellations and closures.

Meanwhile, Spanish and Portuguese motorways were closed because of heavy rains, and violent winds caused the destruction of some power lines.

Else where in Italy, Venice witnessed heavy winds and rain causing flooding, plunging 56 per cent of the city in higher than normal water levels.
