Thousands call Globespan helpline

Helen Young

Globespan called in the administrators last week, feeling that a belly up move was eminent.

Administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers, now managing the affairs of folded budget Scottish carrier Fly Globespan, said they had successfully made new travel arrangements for 900 customers as well as all the flight crew of the airline to be returned to Britain.

The travelers who benefited from a quick solution and subsequently flown back were some of the 1,100 protected customers under a holiday package insurance plan by the ATOL.

Some of the stranded Fkyglobaspan passengers are still continuing their vacation and are scheduled to be flown back in due time.

However, 27,000 customers of the failed carrier are not benefiting from that scheme coverage since no flights fall under any automatic insurance plan in the UK in regards to a business bankruptcy.

PricewaterhouseCoopers has received around 18,000 phone calls through its helplines ever since it took over the management of Globespan.

The management company expects to keep the call centre running during the holidays but will do so at half days for the dates of December 24 and 31, and said it would be closed on December 25 and 26 as well as on January 1.

To reach the PricewaterhouseCoopers Globespan helpline dial 0141 332 3233 and 0131 466 7612 or 7607. Customers currently located outside the UK may contact the company via +44 141 332 3233.

PricewaterhouseCoopers joint administrator Bruce Cartwright said they were please to see how the travel industry in the UK, in particular the rival carriers, have gathered the energies and contributed to happy outcome for some stranded passengers by adding flights and introducing reduced fares.
