Butlins Upgrades to Parks Pay off As Revenue Jumps 10 Percent

Apparently Butlins has chosen to go a bit upmarket. The resort now has spa days and revamped its resorts. This has left behind nothing but very happy campers.

The modernization of the resorts has boosted annual revenues by more than 10 percent across its holiday camps. This, of course, helped to inspire the BBC sitcom Hi-De-Hi, staring Su Pollard. This increase in revenue for Butlins comes during a time when most vacation spots are struggling due to the recession.

Butlins, which owns sites in Minehead, Bognor Regis and Skegness, has announced that bookings for next year are up 11 percent as well. This has crushed the fears of many experts who were sure that Butlins would have a less than impressive year in 2010. They felt this way because they expected travel to pick back up and for Brits to look for vacations further away from home.

The new Ocean Hotel in Bognor is a far cry from the original basic camp Billy Butlin that opened in Skegenss in 1936. The new south coast holiday spot is running at 89 percent capacity, and managing director Richard Bates said that the Ocean Hotel has proven to be a big hit with guests.

The hotel has also developed a range of spa treatments with an unusual twist to it. These twists include a Premier League Male Massage, which takes place in a room with sporting highlights projected onto the wall. There is a father and son package and a marshmallow facial for kids. Overall, the idea now is for Butlins to offer a little something more to keep guests coming back to the resorts time and time again.
