Australia Poised For Fantastic Recovery In Tourism

Australian travel experts say overseas arrival numbers are expected to surge 4.3 percent in 2010.

The tourism industry in Australia is predicted to resume with positive growth in 2010 with the strongest numbers in foreign arrivals in 5 years.

In 2009, Australia’s tourism industry endured its steepest decline in total visitor consumption since 2003 and its SARS outbreak.

Now, the Government body Tourism Forecasting Committee has put forward a major forecast which claims the country will experience a 3 percent increase in 2010 to $92 billion.

Fuelled by strong growth in the United States and in China, overseas arrivals are expected to surge by 4.3 percent following a better than expected performance during the recession.

Hit by a more important slump of 5.4 percent this year, domestic tourism is expected to come out of its misery and increase by 2.9 percent.

Bernard Salt, chairman of the Tourism Forecasting Committee, said his group is suggesting that there will the country will experience a solid recovery in terms of tourism numbers, with 4.3 percent proving to be a healthy result and excellent growth stemming from both the US and China.

The most recent report from the Tourism Forecasting Committee is dramatically more optimistic than the same document a year ago, when the group had estimated a 4 percent slide in overseas arrivals due to the major economic hurdles seen in key markets such as the US, Japan and Britain.

The economic recovery, hopefully experienced globally, combined with a release of pent-up travel demand is estimated to fuel the international visitor numbers to Australia surge 4.9 percent in 2011 as 2012 is expected to remain healthy with a 4.7 percent rise.
