Full-Body Scanners Soon In All UK Airports

Full body scanners are scheduled to be introduced at all airports in the United Kingdom in the aftermath of the botched bombing on a transatlantic flight between Amsterdam and Detroit on Christmas Day.

British ministers are said to be willing to an appropriate budget which would allow the purchase the X-ray devices. The full body scanners enable security officials to see through clothing and may even be used to detect items concealed within the body.

According to Home Secretary Alan Johnson, the introduction of theses body scanners will alt the current requirement for full body searches and thus resolve the delays they generate.

The move is said to be part of a huge airport security upgrade through out the country.

Mr Johnson said the British Government plans to bring in the most advance in terms of airport security as fast a possible.

Security in all airports within the US as well as the ones offering access to flights heading towards American airspace, went through a massive security overhaul following the Christmas Day events, when Nigerian national Abdulmutallab had attempted to detonate a bomb on a Northwest flight on its way from Amsterdam to Detroit.

Passengers bound for the US have had to go through an extra series of security checks at their departure gate, moments before entering the aircraft, including a pat-down body search and a full bag search.

At Heathrow airport in London, US-bound travellers even had to drink from bottles they were bringing on board in a bid to prove they were not containing chemicals which may be used in bomb making once on board the plane.
