US-Bound Passenger Expectations
Tiffany PhillipsThe Christmas botched bombing of a flight making a transatlantic run between Amsterdam and Detroit has resulted in further security steps for passengers on their way to America.
Enhanced security measures will be carried out by airlines rather than by the airports. Therefore, it is best to contact the carrier for all information concerning security measures prior to setting off.
To a bid to avoid delays, aviations officials are asking passengers to arrive promptly for check-in, limit carry luggage to piece and to contact the carrier for any further questions.

British Airways (0844 493 0 787)
It said that delays resulting from secondary security checks had been worked out and its customers can expect flights to be on time.
BA passengers may bring additional hand luggage on board, free of charge, as long as they respected the weight and size limits.
Passengers are being asked to verify the status of their flight prior to heading to the airport.
Virgin Atlantic (0844 209 7770)
Virgin Atlantic passengers are limited to a single piece of hand luggage to be carried within the cabin which should not exceed 23cm x 36cm x 56cm and 6kg in maximum weights. It said that handbags count as one piece of hand luggage.
United Airlines
United Airlines is asking its customers to avoid having an oversize piece of hand luggage.
American Airlines
American Airlines says its passengers should check the status of their flight before leaving home and arrive a minimum of three hours before their flight.
Delta
Passengers should check with airline’s website, at Delta.com, for the latest recommendations as well as flight status. It also recommends arriving at the airport at tleast 3 hours before a US bound flight. Delta flights are experiencing some delays of up to 30 minutes at Gatwick airport.
Continental Airlines
The carrier is asking passengers to arrive a minimum of one hour before the usual recommended time for proper security checks to be performed.

US-bound passengers leaving the United Kingdom should expect a comprehensive series of security measures to be practiced at all airports in the country.
Passengers should expect:
• Travellers will go through a manual pat-down at the boarding gate moments prior to entering their aircraft
• Security staff will thoroughly search all hand luggage manually. Passengers should not have any wrapped items in their possession.
• Some commercial carriers are limiting to only one piece of hand luggage to be allowed within the cabin per passenger.
