Air and road travel disrupted after heavy snow in South Yorkshire
Robert JonesRecent snowstorms have seriously disrupted transit activities in and around South Yorkshire.
Doncaster Robin Hood airport closed its runway and several bus companies in South Yorkshire have cancelled their services because of the heavy snowfall.
Robin Hood airport remains open although there is no flight activity and passengers scheduled to fly out of Robin Hood airport have been informed to directly contact their airline.
All over South Yorkshire, some 200 schools have shut their doors because of the weather.
According to First South Yorkshire, a large number of buses got stuck in snow and their drivers experienced a difficult time in deteriorating road conditions.
It said it was attempting to gradually restore transit service in Sheffield.
In Doncaster, Stagecoach has temporarily ceased its activities although the company said a minimum service is being offered in Chesterfield.
The heavy snowfalls have also caused the Sheffield Supertram network to experience major disruptions.
Patients with scheduled routine hospital clinic appointments had to cancel their visit because of the journeys cancelled by Yorkshire Ambulance Service.
A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said the service was expected to be cancelled on Wednesday because of the serious weather conditions.
He said that patients having important medical requirements including renal and oncology treatments were still being transported by the service.
The Met Office has released a severe weather warning with expected heavy snowfalls as well as icy roads all over Yorkshire. More snow is predicted for Wednesday.
