Travelodge Announces 26 More Hotels for the UK

Travelodge, one of the leading low budget hotel chains in the UK, has just announced its plans to open yet another 26 new hotels in the UK this year. This is a program that is said to be worth about £115 million. It should also expand Travelodge’s UK portfolio by 2,000 rooms, as well as create another 500 jobs.

The expansion will take Travelodge to more than 400 properties over the whole UK. Overall, the budget hotel chain will have more than 30,000 rooms to rent to travelers. This number does include all the new hotel rooms in London, Aberdeen, Colwyn Bay, Morecambe and Edinburgh.

The Travelodge chief executive, Grant Heran, said, that despite this very challenging market, they have been able to invest more money into growth. This is a growth that will last throughout the rest of the current recession and for many more years to come. Heran went on to say that the prevailing economic climate has accelerated the forecast structural change of the hotel market as consumers now choose low cost budget hotels over the overpriced upscale hotels.

Travelodge is right in the fact that people have been choosing low cost hotels over mid to high class hotels. This is due to the fact that the way that people travel is changing. Thanks to the economic downturn people are now more careful about how they plan their vacation. They check for the lowest prices and make sure they are getting the best deals. This is why sites that compare prices on everything from hotels, flights, car hire and more, are in such hot demand right now.
