American Crack Down On Nigerian Visitors

Nigerian nationals entering the United States of America can expect some tough times as the American government recently demanded that they go through special screening.

This apparent heighten measures particularly designed for Nigerian travellers follows Nigeria being listed among 14 countries whose air passengers must endure tighter screening on trips to the US because of apparent terror threats.

The American government claimed that the special measures came after the failed Christmas Day aircraft bombing attempt on an Amsterdam to Detroit Northwest flight by Nigerian national Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.

The American government decision prompted Nigerian authorities to react angrily to the move.

Prof. Dora Akunyili, the Information and Communications Minister with the government of Nigeria, immediately condemned the US stance by saying that it was unfair to inckude Nigeria on the list since the country has no real history of terrorism. He added that the actions of the twenty-three-year-old Abdulmutallab were exceptional.

Nigerians are now including a list of 14 nations whose nationals will have to face stricter regulations before being allowed to enter the US.

The other countries subjected to the new rules are:  Algeria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

Great pressure had been put on American President Barack Obama to make obvious security improvements.
