London still experiences travel chaos
Abi BrayLondon travellers still experience cancellations and delays even if the weather conditions in the mid-winter appear less bleak.
At Heathrow airport, British Airways was forced to cancel some of its flights in and out of the facility.
Most of the BA flights cancelled were domestic and short-haul, but the carrier’s Dallas/Forth Worth to London flight was cancelled.
Departing cancelled BA flights from Heathrow included ones to Toulouse and Madrid while arrivals included Zurich, Basel and Rome flights.
As for rail service, several train companies were offering restricted services, including Eurostar with its Channel Tunnel high-speed service.
Two early-morning Norwich-London trains were cancelled by National Express East Anglia. South West Trains axed its London to Dorking services and East Coast Main Line offered reduced Leeds-London service.
According to RMT transport union, the rail disruption stemmed from staff reductions, and expected thing to far worsen if plans to cut 1,500 maintenance positions went ahead.
Bob Crow, RMT general secretary said that the union’s members have agreed to a minimum number of staff during the past week to provide the essential de-icing, repairs and regular maintenance tasks.
