E-Clear has three days to show Globespan’s money

E-Clear, the credit card processing firm hired by Scottish airline Globespan which collapse recently, has been ordered to officially reveal if it still hold money for the budget carrier.

E-Clear representatives were informed by London’s High Court that they have 3 days to produce evidence of an alleged sum of £35 million by 12pm on Friday.

It also emerged at the court proceedings that a further three companies are claiming owed sums by the transaction expertise firm. One of these was a travel company launched by brothers Hugh and John Boyle from Glasgow.

The accountancy firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC), the company which is looking after the affairs of Globespan, lodged the petition before the court demanding that E-Clear be put into administration. That hearing has been postponed until next Tuesday.

Elias Elia, the Greek national who is the proprietor and operator of the Cyprus based E-Clear did not appear for the first hearing. The company’s lawyers stated they wouldn’t dispose of any company assets until the following hearing on Tuesday next week.

Elia explained recently to the media that, because of unsatisfactory service provided by the no-frills carrier, E-Clear held on to money for as long as 12 months.

Furthermore, Mr Elia said that the economic downturn was responsible for the downfall of Globespan and not E-Clear.

Those comments appear to clash with the claims of three other travel providers which also made court appearance in support of the petition initiated by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. These included the Canadian company started by the Boyle brothers, Go Travel Direct, which offers its customers holidays in the Caribbean.

Go Travel Direct claims to be owed by E-Clear a sum of £250,000.
