Varsity Express Arrives On The British Market
Abi BrayA new commercial passenger airline is entering the British market.
Varsity Express is scheduled to make its debut as full service regional carrier operator on the first of March, 2010.
The airline plans to offer regular scheduled flights between Edinburgh Airports and London Oxford Monday to Friday.
Varsity Express will operate the route with the use of a 18-seat British Aerospace Jetstream 31 aircraft. The carrier will launch itself with promotional fares on every seat. Tickets went on sale today with a one fare being £49, including changes and taxes, until to March 12.
Afterwards, the carrier will offer lead in fares starting at £49 as well as flexible fares starting at £149.
Varsity Express management has promised to provided fast and affordable service and pledges to provide an option which will put an end to the frustration of congested and crowded airports, as well as baggage charges and countless extra fees experienced with the big airlines.
The carrier is being operated by a team of experienced managers and is financially backed by a consortium of private British and Spanish investors whose main business interests traditionally focus on the entertainment sector and property development.
Varsity Express is said to be properly funded and benefiting from the adequate reserves to kick start what is believed to be the first of a series of planned domestic routes during the coming year.
Varsity Express Commercial Director Will Gilligan said that the carrier as been looking to launch its regular shuttle service on this popular route for a while. He said that Oxford is England’s third most visited city in terms of international visitors—with an average of 10 million yearly visitors from abroad– and the Scottish capital is the UK’s second most popular city after London.
