Four UK visa offices in India closed for 3 days

The United Kingdom Border Agency has revealed that, beginning February 10 and for the three days, visa application centres in New Delhi, Jalandhar, Kolkata and Chandigarh would be closed.
According to British High Commission Director of Press and Communications Dan Chugg, the move is required in order to allow the installation at Delhi’s British High Commission of a new IT system.
The upgrade is said to be part of a programme which impacts all British high commissions and embassies around the world.
Centres in New Delhi, Jalandhar, Kolkata and Chandigarh will accept new visa applications until February 9. This date will be last opportunity to make an application until February 15.
Although the centres will be closed for visa applications, people will still be able to collect their passports from these centres during this closure period from 9 am to 10 pm.
Mr Chugg warned people who are planning to travel to the UK in February and March to proceed with their visa applications as soon as possible.
He said that between February 11 and 15, the United Kingdom Border Agency office located in New Delhi as well as the customer infromation email address will also be closed.
He added that upon resuming of normal activities, visa centre personnel will aim to provide normal service as quickly as possible.
