Continental Airlines Expands Heathrow Service
Robert JonesPassenger carrier Continental Airlines announced today plans for an increased number of flights between its New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport, na d London’s Heathrow Airport.
The airline announced that it will introduce a fourth additional daily flight on the busy route during the month of March and a one more flight in October, thus boosting the total number of departures to five between the two airports.
The additional Continental daily departures for Heathrow in total, which includes the twice daily flights out of Houston, Texas, will be of seven come October.
Continental also revealed plans to fit some of its business-class cabins with flat bed seats. The service will be offered on all its aircrafts scheduled for the Heathrow routes startin on June 2, 2010.
Jeff Smisek, Chairman, President & Chief Executive Officer of Continetal Airlines, said that the carrier sees the Heathrow-New York as a flagship route.
He said that, as the top airline in the New York market, Continental was thrilled to intorucde the upgrade capacity on the route as well as the product improvements.
For the first time in its history, Continental will launch an early-evening departure from Heathrow airport to New York starting in March.
Meanwhile, a recent survey has pointed out that most travelling customers welcome the idea of of the introduction of a “fat-tax”.
According to the results of the poll, carried out by a comparison website in the United Kingdom, 75% of the people interviewed were favourable to the idea of obese passengers getting charged the extra fee.
The figures are revealed as Air France last week introduced a new fee for larger travellers who the airline forces to purchase an additional seat in order to accommodate them.
