EasyJet Enthusiastic about Non-UK Numbers
Dave BondBritish low cost commercial airline EasyJet has recently revealed results which has the carrier looking forward with optimism, particularly in terms of international journeys.
The airline announced an encouraging 10.5% jump over the year in revenue during its initial annual financial quarter as it managed to lure more costumers from outside the United Kingdom.
The no-frills passenger carrier also said that it’s predicting that it will experience an important rise in profits during 2010, as it ignored recent travel problems stemming from freezing weather conditions.
Officials at the airline said in a trading statement that revenue jumped to £607.5m in the three months leading to December 31, 2009 and that costumer numbers rose by 9.1% to a total of 11 million passengers.
EasyJet claimed that the number of passengers using the carrier from outside the United Kingdom increased by a impressive 20% during the first quarter of the year and said that the segment now represented more than half of its total passengers.
Outgoing EasyJet chief executive Andy Harrison said the low cost airline is in the midst of a difficult trading environment amid economic conditions which are proving to be challenging. However, Harrison added that the airline’s performance during the first quarter of its fiscal year had given the managerial team encouraging signs.
It was announced in December that Harrison would retire from his position as chief executive of EasyJet at the end of June 2010.
