Moscow Hotels are the Most Expensive in the World
Dave BondReports now show that Moscow has been revealed to be the home of the world’s most expensive for a fifth consecutive year. Average room rates in the Russian capital are about £265 a night. This is down £37 compared to what rates were in 2008. Despite the fact that the rates are down, these hotels were still £40 more than the second most expensive destination, which is Abu Dhabi.
According to a survey done by the Hogg Robinson Group, which is an international corporate travel service company, said that average room rates fell in most cities as hoteliers sought to entice travelers during the financial downturn with cut price deals. However due to the fact that British travelers were having to deal with the falling value of the pound during much of 2009, the cost of hotels in many cities actually increased for them. The average room rates in Abu Dhabi were £32 more expensive.
In New York City, which is the third most expensive city in the world to stay, rates fell by 23 percent from $414.53 to $318.98. However, due to the weak pound, this represented a fall of less than £20 for British visitors.
The average room rates in London fell by five percent to £151.45. This price earned London the 29th spot on the list of most expensive hotels in the world. In other parts of Britain, like Aberdeen, the price fell by 11 percent. However, the biggest decline in price was seen in Belfast were room rates fell from £108.42 to £86.60. These hotels were doing everything in their power to get travelers to choose them over other hotels in other cities.
