Varsity Express Begins Running Services

The newest European low cost airline, Varsity Express, has just started running services as of this past Monday. This airline, which becomes the only airline to fly between Oxford and Edinburgh, is being masterminded by Martin Halsted. This is the same entrepreneur that was dubbed Baby Branson after he attempted to launch a low cost carrier as a teenager.

Now at the age of 23, Martin Halsted, said that Varsity Express is a completely different proposition. This is a well funded operation, running on the Air Operator’s Certificate of established Jetstream 31 Links Air. This is a very small, niche operator, which is not setting out to compete with established larger players. Actually Varsity Express hopes to work with some of these larger airlines in the future.

The airline’s major aim is to offer very fast and very affordable air travel. Overall the airline wants to set up an atmosphere that always puts the customer’s needs first. This is something that larger airlines just cannot do, because they have so many passengers passing through their doors everyday.

The airline went on to say that it selected Edinburgh, because it was the number one requested destination from Oxford by business travelers. However, the area does see traffic from both leisure and business travelers.

Back when Halstead was just 19 years old, he started Alpha One Airways. It was a low cost carrier which was offering flights between Oxford and Cambridge. However, the business went under in just six weeks. He has since held a number of great positions within the aviation industry. He has worked as a flight attendant and has even secured an air transport license at the Oxford Air Training School.
