British Airways Cabin Crew Finally Announce Strike Dates

Well it’s official…passengers who have upcoming plans to fly with British Airways may see some cancellations and delays due to a strike by the cabin crew. The members of the Unite union have confirmed that they are going to strike later on this month. The whole strike is over an ongoing dispute over pay and conditions at the flag carrier.

Following months of failed negotiations, Unite has confirmed that its members at British Airways will walk out for three days from March 20th and four days from March 27th. The British Airlines Stewards and Stewardesses Association had previously said that they did not plan on striking during the Eater period.

However, there are more warnings that their could be further action after April 14th if a resolution is still not agreed on. The union took the decision to strike following a vote in February that showed 81 percent of their members were in favor of industrial action. Another ballot will now be held on a new offer from British Airways. The main goal of this new offer is to prevent the strike.

Union officials are not recommending the deal to staff. However, an immediate ballot will take place over the new proposal. The potential for a strike action can be called off if the offer is accepted. However, many experts find that this is very unlikely to happen.

Unite had previously acknowledged the need for change at British Airways. Just earlier this week they proposed their own cost cutting package through a combination of pay cuts and part time working. However, British Airways rejected the plan, and now it seems that a strike action is inevitable.
