According to new reports, a 25-year-old security worker at Heathrow Airport, John Laker, has been issued a harassment warning after allegedly taking photos of a female colleague. This incident, which occurred at Terminal 5 on March 10th, is believed to be the first time an airport worker has been formally disciplined for misusing scanners.
A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said that police have received an allegation regarding an incident that happened at Heathrow Terminal 5 on March 10th. This first instance harassment warning has been issued to a 25-year-old male.
Reports show that the female colleague, Jo Margetson, had her full body photo taken when she inadvertently went through the full body scanner. It was at this point that John Laker apparently made some inappropriate comments about the picture that the scanner took. These are the same scanners that have the ability to take pictures of peoples’ bodies through their clothing.
Margetson said that she cannot bear to think about the body scanner thing anymore. She said that the whole thing was traumatizing. She said that she has spoken to police about the matter, and she is in too much of a “state” to go to work.
The airport said that they treat any kind of allegations of inappropriate behavior or the misuse of security equipment very seriously. Thus, these claims are being investigated thoroughly. If they are found out to be substantiated, they will take the appropriate action.
Of course, this case has now reignite privacy concerns over the scanners. Some conspirators have even claimed that this whole thing could have been a setup. They go on to say that the whole thing is a conspiracy to get rid of these full body scanners and that Margetson was put up to it. After all, who just by mistake walks into a full body scanner. However, there have been no clues to support these theories.
