Set at the end of an isolated lane and tucked under Orton Scar, Scar Side Farm Holiday Cottage looks south over the Howgills and the eastern Lakeland Fells. The fields surrounding Scar Side are a haven for wildlife. Quiet lanes and empty fells offer scope for walks and rambles to suit all abilities. If you prefer a less leisurely pace, bring along your bicycles and explore the surrounding countryside, stopping off at one off the local pubs for a bite to eat. Or pack a picnic and dine out in splendour! The self catering holiday cottage at Scar Side Farm is in the original farmhouse; the owners and their dogs live in the adjoining conversion. Recently refurbished, the farmhouse is centrally heated and double-glazed. It sleeps six, in two double rooms and a bunkroom. There is a bathroom with a large bath, w.c. and washbasin. The living area consists of a beamed lounge with magnificent inglenook fireplace and log-burning stove, digital TV/video and CD/radio. Relax by the fire with one of the many books provided for your enjoyment. Alternatively, there is a selection of CD's and also videos to suit all ages. There is a well equipped kitchen area, with a fridge-freezer, oven and induction hob, microwave and dishwasher. Laundry facilities are available on request. All fuel, electricity, bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided. Well behaved pets are welcome; downstairs only please. Narrow winding stairs do make access awkward for those with mobility problems. Scar Side Farm Holiday Cottage is a non-smoking establishment. If requested a cot, highchair and baby gate are available. There is car parking for three cars and secure cycle storage for bicycles. You will find in the cottage several bulging folders detailing the many and varied local attractions. Regularly updated, these tell of the best there is to see in the surrounding area. In the porch are a variety of outdoor games for your use. Guests are welcome to use the grounds at Scar Side, in addition to the private sunken garden area and dining furniture, where you may sit and enjoy their BBQ with the scents of wisteria, lavender and honeysuckle wafting slowly across on the evening air. The village of Orton has many facilities including a tea room, shop, post office, church, children's playground.
