Casa Rural Cortijo Roman Spain

Farmhouse in Andalucia, Spain

Property Details of Andalucia Farmhouse

Self catering rural hoilday accommodation is available at El Cortijo Roman which is a 9-hectare smallholding and officially designated Casa Rural. The Cortijo is situated 1.5km north of the white hill village of Jimena de la Frontera on the edge of the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales. The self catering accommodation is in a lovely renovated Andalucian farmhouse and farm buildings that have been sympathetically converted into a cluster of apartments and houses. Accommodation is available for both 2 person and 4 person groups and each dwelling has a private enclosed patio with garden, outdoor furniture and barbecue. The owners are enthusiastic gardeners and are developing extensive gardens and orchards around the Cortijo. There is a traditional Andalucian cloistered courtyard, with a central garden, which provides a cool and tranquil area even in the heat of summer. The surrounding farmland is natural pasture with trees and shrubs and, in the springtime, dazzling carpets of wild flowers adorn the meadows and streamside. The situation of the Cortijo in a broad valley affords superb views of the surrounding hills and mountains and gives a particularly pictureque view of Jimena village. Cortijo Roman provides family-friendly accommodation in tranquil rural surroundings which are a paradise for walking, bird watching, wild flower spotting and for nature lovers of all types and ages. The location of the farm makes it an ideal place for combining many interests. Guests can enjoy the large swimming pool or walk and swim in the picturesque river valley which is within easy walking distance of Jimena. In addition, both horse riding and tennis lessons can be arranged locally. Another option, which finds considerable favour with our guests, is simply to relax in the idyllic surroundings of Cortijo Roman.

Local Area Details

Jimena de la Frontera is a typical Andalucian "white village" with steep cobbled streets and whitewashed dwellings. It is not uncommon to see mules and donkeys being used in and around the village. Jimena castle, which dates back to roman times, has a commanding view over the village on one side and the breathtaking valley of the river Hozgarganta on the other. The village has a number of bars and restaurants where snacks (tapas) or main meals can be enjoyed when you feel like a break from self catering.

The Parque Natural de los Alcornocales is one of the most important protected habitat areas in Andalucia and is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is home to a large and varied wildlife population and is is particularly renowned for the exceptionally wide range of both wild flowers and birds.
Further afield, the Mediterranean may be reached by car in 35 minutes and the Atlantic coast in 50 minutes. Alternatively, the famous "white villages" of Andalucia can be explored in the surrounding hills and mountains.
