Paddymelons is locate in World Heritage listed Springbrook Nation Park 45 minutes drive from Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast. Built in the 1920's Paddymelons (named after a local species of kangaroo "pademelon") was a rest stop for travellers waiting to leave the mountain as the single lane road was open only to upwards traffic in the morning. Locals and tourists would sit, chat and take in the view enjoying a freshly brewed tea or coffee and a bite to eat, whittling away time until the road was opened to downwards traffic in the afternoon. It is believed the Wunburra lookout opposite Paddymelons is one of the oldest in Springbrook with spectacular views of the Gold Coast.
