Stone Cottage is a beautifully appointed, recently renovated property with stunning 180 degree views of the Patterdale Valley. The cottage is packed full of features with beams in most rooms, open fire in the living room, oak doors, local slate floors, plus a handmade kitchen with oak surfaces in the new architect-designed extension to the rear of the house. We have spent over a year completely refurbishing this property and the atention to detail in second to none: Inside the lovingly restored 17th century oak door opens into a quarry tiled hall with door off to the large (over 5m square) living room with beamed ceiling, window seats and arts & crafts oak fireplace. This room has gorgeous views of the fells and the sunny front garden. The cosy dining room has a hint of drama in its interior design, making it a fabulous place for candleit suppers - and it leads into the new kitchen with vaulted ceiling and exposed oak trusses. The kitchen has a breakfast bar and a utility area and is fully equipped with all modern conveniences. The ground floor also features, what we call "the cave" a wonderful showeroom with corner frameless shower cubicle and walls of green slate, plus loo and wall-hung basin. Upstairs are 4 bedrooms: two doubles with views to the front aspect, a pretty single with views to the front and a single with views of the garden and fell to the rear. All have very comfy beds, crisp linen and co-ordinating throws. There is also a bathroom with double-ended bath and limestone tiles. High quality finishes are evident throughout the property with the use of Farrow and Ball paints and designer fabrics complemented by a sensitive mix of antiques and modern pieces to create a modern-country feel. However the real emphasis has been on the use of local materials with the carpet in the living room made from the wool of the local Herwick Sheep, slate flooring from the local quarry and an oak dining table produced by a local craftsman. Outside there is a fully enclosed south-east facing cottage garden with patio furniture and a steep wild woodland garden to the rear (young children will need to take care as there is a stream and a drop from the wall at the back of the cottage.) The new extension features an undercover area ideal for hanging wet gear or removing muddy boots plus a doggy wash-down area complete with hose and a ring for the leash! We are really excited about this property and we hope that our guests will never want to leave!
