The south coast of WA and in particular the Denmark Walpole area is a mild temperate climate with just a few very hot days in summer. Weather can be variable even within the one day, so be sure to bring a range of clothes for all seasons. Enjoy a mild day, when inland is sweltering. Just hot enough for a swim, but not too hot to take the breath away. Winters are also mild with wet days, but that is when the forest glistens and the best time to see it. Rarely get more than 2 to 3 wet days in a row.

Albany Airport has twice daily flights from Perth, while Denmark has a strip for private planes, and is available 24 hour. Walpole has a daytime strip for which you need to contact Dept of Conservation at Walpole to use this. We will pick you up from any of these airfields.

From Broke Inlet to Denmark there are numerous beaches, forest drives and walks, rivers and inlets. Peaceful Bay, Conspicuous, Mandalay and Coalmine Beach are top of the list. Frankland River, Ficifolia Tourist Drive, Irwin Inlet, Knoll Drive, Valley of the Giants and The Tree Top Walk. These are just some of the spots to visit and admire.

The Valley of the Giants area is ideal for self drive holidays with numerous tourist routes to explore, wineries to visit, beaches to see as well as visiting the forests of the region. To come to Ayr Sailean from Perth, you can choose the longer Manjimup route or the slightly shorter quicker Albany Hwy. We suggest you come one way and return the other for a diverse scenic experience.

About Driving

The Bibbulmun Track walk trail runs the full length of the Walpole Denmark area with a wide variety of coastal heath and hills, forest and rivers, as well as crossing and skirting the inlets. We offer free delivery and pickup from the Track, for close by sections, or a small fee applies to go to sections further afield. We also have some light weight camping equipment for hire for those wishing to try an overnight hike utilizing the numerous huts situated a days walk apart.

About Tourist Board

Settled in the early 1900's by a couple of families (including my ancestors), most of the district was settled in the 1930's by the Group Settlement scheme which bought many families from Britain to populate the area. Historical displays can be seen in Denmark at the old police station museum, and at the Tingledale and Nornalup Halls. Walpole historical society is also a wealth of information.
