About Weather/Climate/Temperature
The climate in the Basque region compares well to that of the Cote d'Azur. The winters are extremely mild. Although there can be heavy rainfall, it usually occurs in a short space of time. In our own experience, we have visited the area in both March and October and have had temperatures in the high 20s and it has been warm enough to dine outside in the evenings. We had guests rent the mill for New Year 2007 and they had 21 degrees on New Year's Day!
About Beaches
The Basque coastline is famous for its wonderful sandy beaches and excellent surfing conditions and world surf competitions are held each year. From La Seignosse, Hossegor, Anglet, to Biarritz, Guethary and across the Spanish border to Mundaka, surfers from around the world flock here.
The beaches in Biarritz and right along the coastline are ideal for families. In Biarritz, you have the choice of 3 excellent beaches. Smaller, quieter beaches can be found along the unspoilt coastline.
About Golfing
There are numerous excellent golf courses in the area and more information and links can be found on our website. The oldest golf course in continental Europe can be found in Pau. Ilbarritz is also an excellent golf course right by the sea.
About Skiing
Obviously, trout fishing is available right on our doorstep. The mill is situated on the river Arberoue and fly fishing can be done virtually in our front garden. There are numerous rivers in the Basque country with beautiful scenery - a fishing permit must be obtained - contact details on our website.

About Airport Information
The surrounding Basque countryside is extremely beautiful with rolling green hills and the Pyrenees as a stunning backdrop. Just a short drive from the mill brings you to spectacular scenery and once you get onto the mountain roads, the views are incredible. From St. Jean Pied de Port towards the ancient forest of Iraty, the roads climb up and up with griffon vultures circling above you and wild horses and goats on the mountainside. An excellent view can be had also from the top of La Rhune nearer the coast.

About Local Restaurants
The Basque country is renowned for its excellent cuisine and Alain Ducasse recently opened an excellent restaurant : Ostape in one of the nearby villages. We have a detailed list of recommended restaurants on our website at www.pierretoune.com
Biarritz has a huge choice of excellent restaurants all at very reasonable prices. As do St. Jean de Luz and Pau. In San Sebastian, visit the old town where numerous bars have an impressive display of delicious 'pintxos' the Basque version of tapas.
