Situation: Güímar's Valley is situated in Güímar's municipality in the southern sector of the valley of the same name, in the zone called El Agache, it borders in the north on Arafo and in the west on La Orotava, in the Dorsal Mountain chain. The aboriginal deposits are very numerous, specially in Candoneras's zones, the Cave of the Sand, the Ravine of Badajoz, that of Jest, Escobonal or Chicaica. The most representative construction of Güímar's old town is San's Pedro parochial church, with interesting carvings in its interior. The convent of the Dominicans is a current reconstruction of the former convent, ruined in a fire. Güímar's environment offers great beauty and ecological importance, part of its municipal term is included inside La Corona Forestal Natural Park with peaks as Izaña , 2.386 meters and places of great beauty like the hillsides of Santa Úrsula, Los Órganos and the high places of Güímar's valley. The natural space of t Malpaís is of great landscape .Another place of interest is Los Majanos de Chacona made of a pile of stones, pyramidal constructions of stone of great ethnographic value and the carved caves used as housings. GÜÍMAR’S MALPAÍS Malpaís includes the volcanic cone, Montaña Grande, with a crater of 300 meters of diameter and 276 meters high , and volcanic lava that descends up to the sea forming as a whole a typical volcanic landscape. Also we can find a cave originated by the explosion of a gas bubble, it`s called Cueva Honda , with hundred meters of length and five meters of maximum height. The characteristics of the area makes it a Natural Special Reserve BARRANCO DE HERQUES The area of Herques's Ravine has been, traditionally, rich in caves with deposits original inhabitants of the Canary Islands, “Guanches”. The settlements were located in places where water could be found in the surroundings and the herques were offering this essential liquid both in winter and in summer. This ravine constitutes the natural limit between the municipalities of Fasnia and Güímar, being a great part(report) of the showiness, with hillsides , direct consequence of alluviums that, traditionally, took place every winter, coming untied the uncontrollable force of the waters and molding a deep rut. The ravine passes perpendicularly from the coast, with a level 0, up to a level of 2.300 m. at the top. The ravine is, at present, catalogued by the Law 12/87 as Natural Protected Place. BARRANCO DE BADAJOZ Placed in the high part of the municipality, close to Güímar's hillsides. It presents formations of green mount, pinegrove and fruit trees. It is inside the Natural Landscape Protected of Siete Lomas. Walking around one finds the Cueva del Cañizo, aboriginal cave, which was a summer residence of the Menceyes de Güímar. It was named after the studding cane. The special interest is based on the endemic species of flora and the astonishing vertical walls, Historically, both the Ravine of Badajoz and the Ravine of the Rio were natural suppliers of the whole water necessary for the irrigation of the plantations and coasts of the municipality. In this zone an interesting evolution has been registered throughout years of development in the form of captation of the underground waters, from the ends of the XIXth century up to the decade of the seventies of the last century (galleries, wells, etc).
