Although the house is on three levels it is possible to accommodate one or two people with limited mobility on the ground floor as the patio, kitchen/dining room, bathroom and sitting room with double sofabed are all on this floor. However, there are a few steps - one step from the pavement into the house, three steps down to the bathroom, three steps down to the kitchen and three steps down to the patio. Outside
The kitchen leads onto the patio which has a BBQ, tomato plants and seating/dining for 10. Downstairs is a lovely terracotta tiled, walled private garden with flower beds - fig trees, honeysuckle, ivy, mimosa, and a selection of vegetables for the pot or salad bowl - help yourself! The garden gets loads of sun all day but also has a delightful shady area under the grapevine with a day bed where you can stretch out for a snooze and help yourself to the grapes!
There's a shower for cooling down, hose for the kids to play with and comfortable loungers for catching the rays.
Coast/Beach
We are one hour's drive from Torre del Mar and one hour 10 mins from Malaga. The Costa Tropical is one hour's drive where you can visit the historical seaside towns of Nerja, La Herradura and Almunecar. All the usual water sports including wind-surfing, sailing, para-gliding and scuba diving are very popular from La Herradura in particular. The towns are attractive and have traditional architecture, old barrios with flower laden balconies and twisting cobbled lanes and lots of restaurants.
Golf
There are courses in Granada (only 40 minutes away) and, of course, loads on the coast.
Skiing
Sierra Nevada mountain range is only 1 hour 20 mins drive away. Easy, attractive drive brings you to this popular resort. From December to April you can enjoy fantastic skiing and snowboarding in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range. The resort, called 'Solynieve', is very pretty and good to visit even if you don't ski, etc. There's a wide choice of runs for all levels; tuition and equipment hire also available.
You can easily avoid the weekend queues at the slopes by driving up from Alhama during the working week; ski all day and be back in Alhama in plenty of time for dinner. The Sierra Nevada National Park is also fabulous all year round for walking and cycling and only one and a half hour's drive from Alhama.
Special interest holidays
We are offering 'tapas runs' and guided walks during the winter months which will be included in the rental price. The winter here in Alhama is often really beautiful with sunny days and snow on the surrounding mountains. You'll want to cosy up to a log fire during the evening and the bars offer delicious, hot tapas. The walking is superb with fresh days and crystal clear views. Please contact us for more information about booking a delightful winter break between December and March.

Further details
Casa Verde has a great little supermarket two mins walk away. Five minutes away, the centre of Alhama has banks, shops, bars and restaurants. There's a busy market with local crafts, fruit, veg, plants, flowers, clothes, etc every Friday.
Alhama de Granada, in the fertile heart of the Poniente Granadino in Southern Andalucia, is the perfect holiday destination. The town of Alhama offers history dating from Roman times through Moorish reign and up to modern days. Alhama is very attractive, traditional, bustling and precariously positioned running along the edge of an enormous limestone gorge, Los Tajos. Along the bottom of the gorge run the Rios Alhama and Merchan. Nearby, hot springs gurgle into four thermal pools next to the Rio Merchan. The town has grand, imposing Medieval architecture and lively bars surrounding attractive squares. Surrounding Alhama are soft, pastel shaded rolling hills, attractive small villages and stunning views extending to looming mountain ranges.
Alhama is perfectly situated, close enough for an easy day or weekend trip to the splendid cities of Granada and Malaga; the sea air of the attractive seaside towns of Nerja and Almunecar; and the striking and exhilarating mountain regions of the Sierra Nevada and the Sierras Alhama, Tejeda and Almijara which offer great walking and wintersports.
Everywhere you look the view stretches as far as the eye can see and takes in gentle hills, green valleys and craggy moonscape mountain peaks. The Natural Park of the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama offer secluded picnic areas, usually next to a river or lake, and lovely walks. For fabulous hiking and superb views, the peak of La Maroma is at 2,080m. Less strenuous, the Pico de Lucero hike is very special - ask us for info.
The attractive towns of Loja, Montefrio, Antequera and Archidona are all easy driving and under an hour away. We can put you in touch with local people offering bike hire and walking/hiking/cycling holidays.
