The Engine House is peacefully set behind the farmhouse and Norfolk barns of Silverstone Farm – no longer a working farm, but the home of a talented designer, one of whose specialities is designing garden layouts, including his own! It has been imaginatively and very stylishly converted, in a neo-classical style, into a single storey flint and brick cottage. The house is set well away from the public road, which is anyway only a lane. The track nearby is still used for access so has occasional farm traffic. Otherwise the cottage is incredibly quietly positioned away from noise and light pollution. The front of the cottage overlooks part of the garden to Silverstone Farm which has been created over the last 15 years and is a formal garden subdivided by hedges and pleached allees. It has been extensively photographed and published. Visitors to the Cottage are welcome to visit the garden. Gardening books by George Carter, the owner, are available in the cottage as is a small library of local interest. The cottage has 1 double & 1 twin bedroom both with open plan en-suite shower rooms, WC and WB.— sleeps 4 max. The long, wide and light entrance hall links all rooms in the cottage: a double and a twin bedroom, both with en suite open plan shower-rooms, WC and WB, an elegant sitting room, TV/DVD, kitchen with dining table, dishwasher, fridge, electric cooker and microwave and a good sized utility room with washing machine/dryer, beyond which is a further separate cloakroom/WC. The Engine House has a tiled floor throughout, with underfloor central heating. The fireplace in the sitting room is not functional but purely decorative. Double doors from the kitchen lead to a paved sitting-out terrace with garden table and benches. Covered parking. The cottage contains many interesting artefacts and designer furniture and the walls are backdrop to a fascinating collection of pictures and photographs.
