The Grand Bois is an old country farmhouse gite, close to the little Mediaeval Bastide Town of Eymet, on the unspoilt southern edge of the Dordogne, set amidst fields of sunflowers, vineyards and rolling farmland. It is easily accessible from the channel ports or very convenient for Bergerac Airport which is only twenty minutes away and which has daily ‘no frills’ flights from Stanstead and Southampton. Once you arrive you will find the roads and lanes of the area quiet, even at the busiest times taking you back to an era when driving really was a pleasure. The grounds of four acres has its own wild flower meadow which last year included five different kinds of orchid, including the elusive Bee and Lizard varieties. Many wild birds such as Hen Harriers, Golden Oriels and Hoopoes, can be seen in the woods and fields around. The tastefully furnished accommodation consists of:- A large/kitchen dining room which has a big old open fireplace, and is fully equipped with oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and table for eight. A comfortable sitting room, furnished with antique furniture and sofa bed, wood burning stove, TV/Video, library and games. Two pretty spacious bedrooms both with double beds. The master bedroom has an extra bed and an en suite shower room. Downstairs there is a big shower room and access to the large shady veranda The veranda is the ideal place for BBQs and eating after your tiring day out or perhaps just sitting unwinding overlooking the pool and enjoying a glass of the local Bergerac wine. In fact the perfect peace may tempt you to spend your holiday there moving only to swim, play table tennis or a leisurely game of croquet. The swimming pool with Roman end is 10m x 5m x 1.4m deep throughout and young children should be supervised at all times. The pool is shared by the English lady owner (well behaved) who lives in the adjacent property and who is on hand to offer help and advice on house hunting, trips and tours. The Gite is centrally heated and is also available for longer “house hunting lets”, short breaks and bed and breakfast (excluding July and August). A welcome pack is included and a meal on your arrival can be arranged. Bed linen is available for hire. Well behaved dogs are welcome.
