Vila Rostrum stands at the end of a cul-de-sac on the western outskirts of Funchal. Its elevated position on a steep hillside grants it spectacular views over the whole of the Funchal amphitheatre, but the setting need be no impediment to guests with walking difficulties, as one of the luxuries provided is a private lift, whisking you up from the street level entrance hall to the main accommodation level some 20feet above. The main entrance opens on to a large hallway, where there is an oval dining table at your disposal and a piano. The ground floor of the villa sleeps 2-3 people, and comprises a spacious living-dining room, an extremely well equipped open plan kitchen, a bedroom with electronically adjustable adjoining twin beds, a small TV room with internet access and a sofa bed for a third person, a bathroom with under floor heating, bathtub, double wash basins, bidet, toilet and separate shower cubicle. There is also an additional cloakroom. Upstairs are two further twin bedrooms with balconies, one with a television and both with direct dial telephones. There is another full bathroom also with under floor heating, bath/shower and separate shower cubicle. The panoramic views from the terraces and garden area that adjoin the lounge are truly breathtaking, and the private swimming pool has been designed to appear suspended above the town and the ocean. There is a poolside changing room with shower and toilet and a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Furniture for dining alfresco is provided on the covered terrace, which also has a terrace heater for the cooler evenings. There are plenty of sun beds and chairs and the spacious barbecue area is covered, as is the table tennis table. The small indoor pool has an exercise jet stream for those that are feeling energetic. For parties of up to 11 people, there is an additional self contained apartment on the second floor. It has a lounge/diner with plasma cable television, DVD and music centre and doors to the front panoramic balcony. The open kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher. There is a guest toilet, full bathroom and a twin bedroom that also has doors leading on to the panoramic balcony. Stairs from the lounge lead up to the mezzanine floor where there is an open area with internet access and a double bedroom with full en-suite bathroom. Children are accepted of any age if the guests take full responsibility for their safety. The villa could be deemed hazardous for children under 10 years as the railings in front of the villa are only 40cms high. The outdoor pool is protected by by a fence and accessed through a gate that can be locked. In the luxury bathrooms, shower and hand gel is provided and so too is shampoo and toilet rolls. A substantial 'Welcome Basket' is provided on arrival which includes basic breakfast provisions, water, wine and fruit. Complementary private transport from airport to villa and from villa to airport. Ideal for families or friends travelling together, as all the outside areas are shared, but you have the privacy of your own accommodation.
