La Masure is a cluster of 6 houses on either side of a lane leading down to a farm. In this region of France a settlement of this size is known as a Lieu Dit meaning that it’s smaller than a hamlet. Our cottage is the first on the right heading down the lane. Its thick granite walls and supporting beams date from the middle of the nineteenth century, but its interior has been completely modernised with a fully fitted kitchen; two shower rooms; three WCs and a 21st. century wood burning stove set in the original hearth. The cottage has a completely enclosed side garden and smaller rear garden, with children’s play equipment; a barbecue; garden seating for up to seven people, and a lawn large enough for youngsters to kick a ball about. La Masure is a working farm, so be prepared to hear the lowing of cattle, the local cockerel and the occasional movement of farm machinery down the rear lane. – there’s virtually no other traffic – as well as distant church bells early morning and evening. Apart from the English owners, who live opposite the other four neighbouring families are all French. This is typical rural living right in the heart of the Norman bocage !
