LOCATION ---------------- La Murta is situated in the Costa Blanca mountains which rise sharply from the beautiful coastline between Alicante and Valencia in south eastern Spain. The region is renowned for its temperate climate and up to 300 days of sunshine per year. The mountain range has some of Europe's most beautiful scenery combining wide ranging sea views, ancient olive groves, and fascinating limestone caves, crags and tunnels. La Murta's two acre olive grove is set in the south-facing mountain side of one of the most picturesque valleys in the area: a beautifully protected haven just a mile from the traditional Valencian mountain village of Tarbena. ACCOMMODATION --------------------------- La Murta’s accommodation is in one of two separately situated beautifully equipped wooden cabins. Cabaña de Olivos is nestled amongst olive trees in a secluded and protected spot from where you have wonderful views across the valley. Casita de Montaña stands high up on its own mountainous outcrop, and commands spectacular views all round. Both chalets have spacious accommodation for up to four people with a large living area, open plan kitchen and shower room. Each has their bedroom on a cosy, low ceiling mezzanine with a choice of single or double duvets. A comfortable sofa bed is available to sleep up to two people downstairs. EATING AT LA MURTA -------------------------------- Staying at La Murta gives the ultimate flexibility when it comes to meal times. If you want to be independent you have all the facilities for a self catering holiday with complete kitchen facilities in your own cottage and barbecue facilities next to the pool. You can even give us your shopping list and we will buy your food for you. If some days you would prefer us to provide your meals, that is no problem. With detailed maps to show the start of each walk and a thorough summary grading their length and difficulty it is very easy to choose, organise and navigate each walk. CYCLING HOLIDAYS ------------------------------ The mountains around La Murta are in the heart of the area chosen by many of Europe's top cycling teams for their winter training. The area offers all you could want as a recreational or competition cyclist. Everything from 400 metre climbs of switch-backs, hairpins and wonderful views through to more gentle, lush valleys laden with beautiful orange trees and Mediterranean charm. All in a lovely temperate climate which averages over 6 hours of sunshine per day throughout the winter period. We have cycle storage facilities, can arrange local hire of top quality road or mountain bikes, and can organise an airport pickup if you choose to bring your own bike. MOTORBIKING HOLIDAYS ------------------------------------- The roads in the mountains around La Murta are motorbiking heaven! Endless traffic free roads with twists and turns, fast straights and steep climbs contribute to a wonderful riding experience. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ------------------------------------------ La Murta is set in a deep and often steep valley. It is the most wonderful place for active people, but is not suitable for those with any kind of walking difficulties or for children under the age of 5. Please also be aware that the picturesque access road down to the property is very narrow and steep in places and is only suitable for a small or medium sized car.
