The Property Takaro is eco lodge located on a 2500 acre organic property, around 30k from Te Anau in Southland. It is a short helicopter ride from Fiordland and Milford Sound (or approximately 3 hours drive) and has its own private airstrip. It is two hour’s drive from Invercargill and 2.5 hours from Queenstown Airport (20 minutes via helicopter). The property occupies an exceptional position lying along 11k of the Upukerora River. It is surrounded on all sides by Snowdon Forest (DOC land with ‘stewardship’ status in the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area), with mountains, creeks and native bush. You can reach Takaro via a 15k gravel road, with approximately 7k from the main gate to the lodge itself, meaning it is extremely isolated. It is noticeable for its tranquillity, clean air and water and outstanding natural beauty. The property include wild deer, grazing cattle, a flock of sheep, a small farm with domestic animals, free range hens and our organic vegetable and herb gardens. Takaro is the perfect retreat for those who want to get away from it all, to relax and rejuvenate.
