A P Leicester GuestBook 2006 A large, honey-coloured stone farmhouse, La Chataigne is on a 19-acre estate of woodland and meadow, but within walking distance of the charming riverside village of Tourtoirac, where there are local shops, a bar/restaurant and a ruined abbey. The 200-year-old stone walls,chestnut and oak timbers and large open fires have been complemented by a mix of traditional furnishings and modern facilities to create a special location for a holiday. All the downstairs rooms open onto a generous terrace, which has a vine-covered pergola for shade, a barbecue and lovely views down the valley. The terrace overlooks the private 10m x 8m swimming pool, secluded garden and the grounds beyond. Underneath is a table tennis area. Ground Floor: A 30ft farmhouse kitchen with dining area and large sitting/dining-room, with two log fires and doors to the terrace with barbecue and to courtyard. A double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and door to the terrace. First floor: A double bedroom and a room with bunk beds. These can be made into a family suite as they share a bathroom and separate toilet. A twin room, en-suite with shower room and toilet. Top floor: A spacious, beamed attic provides a charming family suite (a double and screened twin beds) with a bathroom sporting unusual low beams! Outside: A magnificent wooden barn and scented lime tree form part of a large courtyard. Under the adjoining barn is a large games room with table tennis, darts, table skittles and a fabulous summer kitchen. On the far side is the farmhouse, La Chataigne, arranged for maximum privacy with its own garden, pool and completely separate driveway. All guests are welcome to use the extensive 19 acres of grounds (woodland and meadow), games room, boules pitch. For children there are sandpits and adventure play area with a Wendy house and there are bicycles for people of all ages to borrow.
