PIGLET COTTAGE France

Prices from £145 per Week
PIGLET COTTAGE is a pretty one bedroomed cottage attached to the side of the owner's house. The front door is through a small glass porch which is large enough to leave two bikes and shoes etc., should you wish to. Then through the main door into the open plan dining area by the window, the kitchen and sitting area. The ceiling goes right up to the apex with a further roof window and exposed beams. Door through into bedroom with window overlooking the orchard, double bed. Through into en-suite to include shower, basin with mirror and light over and door into separate toilet. Central heating, hot water, electricity, gaz and bed linen are all inclusive in the weekly price. You will need to bring your own towels and tea towels. The galley kitchen has a gaz cooker and is equipped for two people. We have personally cooked in the apartment to make sure there is everything you need. However, we live just next door and if there is something we have forgotten just tell us and we will do our best to get it for you if we can. There is a washing machine and fridge, hair drier and a radio. The television is for videos only of which there is a good selection. Also a big selection of books. Garden furniture in the orchard for your use. There are three cherry trees in the orchard and if we have a good crop and you are here at the right time we usually invite you to help yourselves. The rest of the trees are cider apples and these are too bitter to eat and are only good for making the cider. Peace, tranquility and beautiful views. Wonderful place to chill out and take walks but more about this later..... The cottage is reserved for non smokers. However, if you wish to smoke outside this is not a problem. We are unable to have pets staying as Simon is allergic to animal hairs as are some of our guests. Please note that cleaning is not inclusive and you are expected to leave the cottage clean and tidy as you will find it. On arrival we will ask you for 100 Euros or £70. 00, in return for the key, this will be returned to you at the end of your stay less breakages or cleaning where necessary. We are situated just below Basse Normandie into the western part of Pays de La Loire. Sarthe 72. We are in a rural area near the Alpes Mancelles and bordering a National Park. Plenty of outdoor activites. There is horse riding, kayaking/canoeing, fishing with permit which you can buy at the tabac. Also, archery and organized hiking & walking, plus guided tours around many of the local medieval towns. Roman fortress and temple of historic interest at Jublains. It took us approximately one hour but I am afraid I did not clock the mileage. Would be pleased to show you on the map if anyone is interested. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool in the medieval village of Fresnay sur Sarthe which is just 11 km or 5 miles from us. Fresnay also has a Saturday market in the square. Everybody retires to the Celtic bar for a drink and to greet each other. It is a sort of ritual! There is also a pretty little park which overlooks the River Sarthe and a small artisanal shop next to the park. Plenty of walking and cycling. There is a lake with water sports & beach in the forest of Sillé Le Guillaume which is approx 15 km away. Here you can swim in the lake or sit on the sand with a cold beer or sit at the bar/restaurant or take out a paddle boat. Le Mans is approx. 30 km or 18 miles from us and, of course, is famous for the 24 hour motor racing and many more events. Le Mans has plenty of shops and pavement cafés and in the old part the architecture is beautiful. During the month of July there is usually a festival in the old part. The main street is closed. You pay, well it was 30 francs each last time we visited 6 years ago. We don't get a lot of time! We are always planting or harvesting or bottling, pickling, freezing etc. Also we love the peace and quiet here and weeks can go by without us realizing we have not been further than our orchard or the occasional apéritif or dinner with our French neighbours who have become our best friends. Alençon is 20 km or 12 miles from us and is smaller than Le Mans but very pretty with, again, shops and pavement cafés. There is also a market on Sunday. Most years there is a festival during July/August. There is a theatre in Alençon and during the festival there is usually a lot going on there. St. Suzanne, which took us about one hours drive, has a beautiful chateau and grounds which are interesting in themselves but there is usually the addition of different art exhibitions. Bagnolé de L'Orne is a spa town which also has a casino and is again approx one hours drive to give some indication. Caen/Ouistreham is the nearest port to us. approx. 80 miles. Brittany ferries go from Portsmouth to Caen. Le Havre is just slightly longer. P & O ferries go from Portsmouth to Le Havre. There is also, I believe, Ryanair which flies from Stanstead to Tours which I think is approx 2 hours from us. Need to check with your map for this one. You will need to find out about trains to Alençon, the nearest station, and then take a taxi to us. (approx. 20 - 25 mins)
