Sungubala is a comfortably rustic Bush Camp up in the mountains of the Northern Drakensberg World Heritage Site - Kwa Zulu Natal. Experience the freedom and serenity of unspoilt wilderness at Sungubala,a unique Bush Camp set in the Drakensberg mountains adjacent to the Ukhahlamba World Heritage Site. Guests are accommodated in thatched safari tents, thatched A Frame huts or a fully equipped mountain house with fireplace. Although the camp has no electricity, hot water is gas fired and the evening ambience is created with paraffin and gas lanterns. The communal boma has a well equipped kitchen with refridgeration, a lounge with fireplace and dining area. Guests enjoy the African night sky around a camp fire, where there are also BBQ facilities. Guided hiking is included in the tariff and overnight and multi day hikes are also offered. Hiking destinations include the Amphitheatre with Thukela Waterfall (853m),the Cannibal Cavern (once inhabited by people forced into cannibalism during the reign of the Zulu King Shaka), Bushman/San Rock Art. Other activities include: Tribal and Cultural Tours, Access to horseriding, abseiling, trapezing, mountain biking. Swimming is in the clean waters of the Putterill Stream. The Sungubala Farm is part of the Northern Drakensberg Conservancy and has protected, indigenous, Yellowood Forests.
