La Voie Lactée or The Milky Way, a poetic name given to the route of the pilgrims on their difficult journey to the Shrine of St.Jacques de Compostele in Spain, is located in the 12th century village of Lauzerte.

Through fields of sunflowers and corn, and orchards of cherries, peaches, and plums, travelers from any direction can spot the three major stone towers of this hilltop "bastide".

This two-bedroom townhome has been lovingly restored offering its guests the joy of ancient wooden beams, terra cotta tiled or wooden floors, character atmosphere, and the benefit of its location, where one can walk to the town square, cafés, local boulangeries, charcuteries, and many other modern amenities (such as banking services).

The first floor bedroom, with a queen-sized bed, is outfitted in antiqued-white furniture with rose colored toile linens and accessories. There is a large decorative fireplace and a romantic corner,with white wicker table and chairs serving as the perfect place to enjoy a morning café au lait or an evening snack of charcuterie and a glass of one of the many notable but inexpensive regional wines.

The second floor bedroom is beamed and overlooks the ancient tiled rooftops of Lauzerte. It has both a twin-sized and a queen-sized bed. For your convenience there is a large closet and a sitting area for reading or relaxing. The decor is light and airy in shades of pale violet and sage green...very restful!

The bathroom is located on the first floor and encompasses a large shower, sink, and toilet. Initial towels and linens are provided. Robes and slippers are available for your pleasure and use.

The kitchen, dining, and living areas are located on the ground floor. The kitchen is fully fitted with a small refrigerator, cooktop, microwave, and countertop oven. A washing machine is also housed in the kitchen area but tastefully hidden from view.

The dining table seats six normally but can be made larger if you should invite interesting people that you would like to know bettter over a simple dinner. Friends are made in he most unique places!

The living area has two comfortable sofas and an antique chest cocktail table. A television and stereo are provided along with games, guide books, and periodicals. Your hosts speak both English and French so please consider visiting us in what is known as "one of the most beautiful villages in France", and LA VOIE LACTEE.

Local Area Details

There is much to do and see both locally and around the region, including concerts, theatre, and festivals. There are many activities available including a 9-hole golf course, an equestrian center for horseback-riding, swimming, tennis, parachuting, and hiking on the Grande Randonnée trail. The equestrian center also operates a summer day camp for children. Market days in Lauzerte are hosted on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

The towns of Cahors, Moissac, Montauban, and Montcuq, to name a few, are within 35km of Lauzerte and are well worth visiting. Montcuq, just a ten minute drive also boasts a lovely lake for swimming and tanning with a beach and snack bar.
