The town of Craon, with its Château and formal gardens is close by, otherwise visit the busy city of Laval, just explore the local countryside or do a spot of fishing from the property's own riverbank.

The Pays de la Loire and the Loire Valley are rich in history and beautiful landscapes.

The nearest town to Athee is Craon, which is only 3km away. Craon has all amenities including a large new Supermarket, Swimming Pools (including two outdoor in summer season), Banks, Bars and Restaurants. The town has a Medieval centre, and a friendly and welcoming personality. Just outside Craon is a huge Racecourse that compares with Cheltenham. Spectacular events are held during September. The city of Laval is only 25 minutes drive away with its shopping centres, bars and restaurants.

20 minutes drive will find you in beautiful Chateau-Gontier, on the River Mayenne, with it’s inexpensive zoo/animal refuge. Great day out for kids and adults alike. The Refuge de l'Arche has a story to tell about its animals; injured, sick, maltreated or abandoned - they are given a new life at the refuge when they cannot go back to their original environment. Over 35 acres, the refuge was created using observation posts, overhangs and terraces so that you can get close to the 800 animals (200 species) and take photographs of them.

Just 15 minutes away is the sports and recreation park of "La Rincerie", in La Selle-Craonnaise, near Craon, which offers a multitude of water sports: catamaran, windsurfing, canoeing and "Topper"; that benefit from the prevailing winds onto this 125 acre lake. You can even practice sand-sailing, or, if you like nature, you have ATB, archery, "swing-golf" (9 holes by the reservoir) and mini-golf. The reservoir is also of major ornithological interest, and offers lovely walks around the area.

Well worth a visit is the famous Robert Tatin museum and gardens. After sixty years of travelling around the world, Robert Tatin returned to his native town, to sculpt a world deserving of the name "One thousand and one nights", which invites the visitors to dive into his fantasies. The approach is along a pathway bordered by giants, dedicated to people such as Picasso, Joan of Arc and Vercingétorix. In addition to his sculptures, the museum also includes paintings, designs and ceramics. A most unusual experience!
Visit the Ferme du Pressoir, where cider has been made since 1871, and enjoy the ambiance of a traditional French cider farm. Taste cider made not just from apples, but also from pears "Poire", and sample the famous "Water of Life" - Calvados Apple Brandy.

Take a 1 hour drive to the heart of the Loire, and explore some of the best vineyards of the world, plus an abundance of medieval castles.

Le Mans is only an hour away

Further west, the beaches of the Loire Atlantique and southern Brittany are about and hour and a half away.

North west of us you can find Mont St Michel, famous for being France's second most popular tourist destination.
