New England Self Catering Rental Lodging
_________________________________________
Here is a Stowe rental condo that woks well for the whole family. Spa time, anyone? Pool? Early morning fly-fishing? Evening trail ride? Moonlit snowshoe? Artist studio? White water rafting? Canoeing on the lake? Hike up the mountain? Mountain bike? Trail run? . . .
Then there is the skiing from our New England ski lodging rental. And why would there not be skiing - we are in the heart of the Green Mountains of New England with two ski mountains just 3 and half mile up the road - Stowe Mountain skiing and cross country skiing. Out the front door of our New England rental lodging are cross country ski trails that go for at least 75KM.
===============================================
Our Stowe, Vermont rental condo house is sited on the hill overlooking the West Branch Valley that runs from the village of Stowe to Stowe mountain - actually Mt. Mansfield.
With the "perfect" New England Village of Stowe (yes, it does have white clapboard steeples and a general store) just 4 miles down Mountain Rd. and our very own set of mountains surrounding our valley - all crowned by Mansfield, how can we not feel that we're in the heart of New England?
We are located within the property of Topnotch Resort and Spa - a facility which is available for our condo renters to use.
There are 2 pools - both indoor and out - as well as steam rooms which our guests are welcome to make use of when they're not on the trails, in the lakes, on the streams, or in the artist galleries and shops.
The tennis courts (indoor and out) are available but need to be reserved and paid for. In addition to just pickup tennis, there is a whole Tennis Academy at our resort - one of the best in New England. There are regular Stowe tennis tournaments, round robins, and clinics. Recently ranked #1 in the Northeast and # 8 Best US Tennis Resorts by Tennis Magazine and #11 in the world by Tennis Resorts Online, Topnotch Tennis Center features an elite team of international professionals, over 30 tennis programs for all ages and levels of play, "Play to Win" teaching methods, 6 outdoor courts (4 Har Tru), and 4 indoor hard courts -- all in the midst of spectacular mountain views.
At our New England resort rental house we also have a recently expanded spa with a full complement of treatments, a medi-spa for medical dermatology, tai chi, pilates, exercise and fitness classes, and personal trainers. The spa, exercise/fitness and wellness programs are available at the same discounts rates as if you were staying in the hotel.
We have a balcony at the back of our Stowe rental condo from which - just like from our living area - you get terrific views of this Green Mountain Valley. While our New England vacation rental condo is sited with other townhomes, the woods are just in front and to the sides of us.
In those woods, are many rough trails for walking, hiking, running, and even horseback riding. In the valley below are meadow trails and the Stowe recreation path that runs alongside the West Branch stream.
===============================================
Description of Our New England Rental Condo - Dewey Mountain Nest
We are in a group of 4 townhouses and we sit right on top of a lawn that blends into a stand of birch trees on a ridge overlooking the Mountain Road Valley.
On the other side of the valley, the valley of the West Branch River which drains the east side of Mt. Mansfield, is our namesake mountain - Dewey. From our bedroom window and deck, we can watch the changing face of our mountain. Our favorite time is, of course, the autumn. You know the story - autumn in New England - it's why we love our bedroom.
Our living room, too, has the same view.
In the summer, the next door tennis courts give us the tennis "pong" punctuation through out the day. We love that sound as a counterpoint to the wind in the trees.
But to our Stowe Vermont rental house's details:
__________________________________________
We have carved the first floor into an open plan design with the kitchen (at the front) flowing through the dining area and into the living room and deck.
We like stainless steel and black granite so we've finished the kitchen with stainless steel appliances and local granite tops. The floor in the hall and kitchen is ready for snow tracking and mud in the summer with slate flooring. The cabinetry is, of course, maple.
The fireplace is the center of the living room and we've added a Georgian mantelpiece to the gas fire. The fire's easy and clean. However, in the living room of Topnotch Resort's main building , you can get your fill of wood fires.
The living room opens onto a narrow balcony with birch, maple, and hemlock trees in the foreground.
We've furnished our self catering resort house with lots of comfy overstuffed chairs and a big sofa. They are covered in a warm beige - tan - green deep weave material.
Up stairs, we have two bedrooms. The front has two queen beds and its own bath.
The back - the master, has one queen, and a bathroom with black quartz marble, maple cabinets and an inset bath with black granite surround. The beds are of maple and the master is of a late 19th century columnar design. There is a balcony with forest and valley views.
Our Vermont rental condo is on the grounds of Topnotch Resort. The workout - exercise room, exercise classes and spa with its lap pool are just across the way from us on the other side of the tennis courts.
We are cross country skiers and have found our world here to be perfect. We can ski, almost literally, out the front door on trails that lead up the hill and over into a series of inter-linked trails that go further than we've ever tried. So we think of our house as a Vermont ski condo in Stowe.
These same trails in the spring, summer and autumn are great for walking or running. Well, it is Vermont forest. Just up the hill is a ruin of a sugar shack in a hidden fold.
Where Our New England Stowe Rental Condo with Luxury Resort Facilities Is Situated:
Our Stowe house keeping condo sits on a hill above the Mountain Road ( Route #108) that leads, one way for 4 miles into Stowe and the other way for 3 ½ miles to Mt. Mansfield and then on to Smugglers Notch ( road through notch is closed in the winter).
Just below us and across the horse meadows is the West Branch Creek - where fly fishing is excellent and access is easy. This same stream is a gentle canoe or kayak when the water is up and running. In any event, it is a fine stream for children to play along. Also along this stream runs a paved bike and walking route - all the way into town. The path has its own hump back bridges over the stream and winds through meadows, along an out door sculpture gallery, by restaurants and pubs and then in to the heart of our New England village with its perfect white steeples, art galleries, antiques and general store.
Views from Our Stowe Resort Condo Home for Rent :
When we look out our living room and master bedroom windows, we are looking into a glade of mature birch trees across 50 yards of lawn. Over the brow of the hill - just beyond the birch trees is a mountain brook. You can't however see it - just hear it. It is a great area for the children to play in, to dam, to play "Pooh Sticks" in. Here is a Stowe rental condo that woks well for the whole family. Spa time, anyone? Pool? Early morning fly-fishing? Evening trail ride? Moonlit snowshoe? Artist studio? White water rafting? Canoeing on the lake? Hike up the mountain? Mountain bike? Trail run? . . .
Vermont New England Ski Condo Rental:
Through the birches is Mt. Mansfield ( highest in Vermont ) and its flanks. Although we can see Mt. Mansfield we are not on the slopes. If we were to call ourselves a New England rental ski house, it would be with respect to cross country skiing, which can be done out the front door. Of course the downhill runs are just a 3.5 mile drive up the valley - a drive that be done in the regular shuttle service of the resort rather than in your own car.
Right Next to our Stowe Vermont Self Catering Condo:
Our rental resort home sits adjacent to two of Topnotch at Stowe's tennis courts and just up the hill from many more. For rainy or winter days, we also have a set of indoor tennis courts just across Mountain Road from us. We are also close to the pools and the newly re-built (Dec. 2004) Vermont luxury resort spa. If you want a self catering condo vacation, we are in a land that offers the Vermont vacation experience.
Up through Topnotch, up the hill, there is a network of wooded bridle/running/rough walking trails and, in the winter, cross country ski trails. These trails will take you up onto the hill's crown and down into glades where the stream starts that runs under the hill next to our house
The hillside is forested with maples, birch, pine, and hemlock. The trails are rough and cared for only by those who pass by. You will be alone in your own New England forest - just up the hill from our New England vacation self catering condo rental.
Costs More:
The fact is that our New England rental condo is priced a little higher than others that you might find for rent in Stowe. The reason for our higher cost is that the resort provides you with many services that you would not be getting at a regular rental house that is not connected to a New England resort.

Biking -- Road Biking and Mountain Biking from New England Rental Accommodation:
You can road bike on the Stowe Recreation Trail that runs alongside and over the West Branch stream. More heavy duty road biking is the climb up the mountain and through Smuggler's Notch on the Mountain Road. This is a climb that is doable for the power road rider in training. Then, of course, you can road bike forever on the Vermont back-country roads that surround us. All this road biking is accessible from the front door of our Stowe rental accommodation - our house.
Mountain biking trails are all around our New England rental accommodation house and can be an easy peddle or a back-country single track adventure. One of the unique parts of taking a rental vacation in Vermont's Stowe area is that many of our trails go through private land. Our view of life up here is uniquely open to use by mountain bikers, hikers, and cross-country skiing.
If you need to rent a bike - mountain, road, all purpose - the concierges can fix you up or you could do it your self through the Nordic Barn: 802-253-6433
If you call the concierges, they can have a biking map waiting for you.
Mountain Hiking and Climbing From Stowe Rental Accommodation:
What can we say? Great mountain hikes all around us. There is challenging - moderate to difficult - hiking and, then, there are mountains that you can just stroll up. Actual scramble-up and technical mountain climbing is just up the valley from our Stowe rental accommodation. There are a number of challenging climbing faces. For a guide for hard core rock and ice climbing, give the Green Mountain Club a call at (802) 244-7037.
The Green Mountain Club is just down the road from Stowe and is a resource for all the trails in Vermont.
If you call the concierge, they can have hiking, biking and cross country maps waiting for you.
Strolling from Stowe Rental House:
Out the back door, down the path by the stream, over the road and through the meadows and along the Recreation Path by the West Branch stream - is a good start to a stroll on solid paths. It's all available from your Stowe rental house.
Then, there are all the rough trails through the forest just above our Stowe rental house.
New England Shopping Around Stowe Vermont Rental Lodging:
Stowe has all the upscale clothes, galleries, antiques, fine furniture and cabinet makers, and Vermont style "cupboard" and general stores that you would expect in our "picture perfect" village. The zoning in Stowe is strong enough to keep it "our village". We like to keep Stowe village and it's shopping as pristine as our Stowe Vermont rental lodging guests could ask for.
Further afield, we regret to tell you, is Ben and Jerry's. You will pass it as you drive up the road to Stowe. We won't tell anybody, we promise.
You will also pass many antique shops and artists' galleries. They are everywhere, along every backroad.
We even have a be-spoke outdoor high-tech sports clothes store in Stowe - The Col d'Lizard in Lower Stowe. Ready to wear polar fleece galore or crafted for you especially.
Stowe Café Coffee House:
For the over-caffeinated amongst us there is a perfect Stowe Vermont café - espresso coffee house in the heart of Stowe. Yes, the barrista is a snowboarder, Yes, she has tattoos. Yes, she believes in "Earth First" and downhills fast. Yes, the muffins are blueberry. Yes, the reading material is local and environmental. Yes, you will find a bulletin board of all the local music action. Full of Beans Coffee House - (802) 244-0808 is . . .
Galleries and Artists' Own Studios Near Our New England Resort Home:
In Stowe and the surrounding area, many artists have moved in over the last 50 years and their studios are usually open over the weekends, It is hard to drive on any back road and not come across an artist with a vision. Some of the local artists' sculptures you will find on the lawns of Topnotch Resort that lie below our New England vacation house.
Water Adventure in Stowe near our Rental Vacation House:
With all the streams, rivers, and reservoirs that we have in our corner of Vermont, we are near many kinds of white water and flat water for New England kayaking and canoeing. Then just thirty five miles away is Lake Champlain with its surrounding mountains. This is a massive lake well suited to real sailing and real sea-kayaking. It is enormous.
We have two whitewater rafting, kayaking, and sea kayaking outfitters in town - Umiak Outfitter (802 253-2317) and AJ's (802 253-4593), who run daily whitewater rafting, kayaking and sea-kayaking trips from Stowe. Couldn't be easier.
You can also rent canoes and kayaks from many of the outfitters along Mountain Road - down the way from our Stowe vacation rental house . Here is onehttp://www.ajssports.com/stowe-vermont-kayak-canoe-rentals-tours.ht m, - Umiak at 802 253 2317.
Fishing and Fly Fishing Surrounding Stowe, Vermont and Our Housekeeping Rental House:
With all our streams, rivers and lakes, there is New England style fly fishing all around us. There is, of course, spin fishing in the many lakes and reservoirs in the Stowe area. While we are definitely not near the sea, there is the huge, mountain fringed Lake Champlain just 35 miles away. This is not a lake to be trifled with, so we urge you to check the forecast for thunderstorm awareness. It's a long trip to shore.
To make fly fishing supremely easy when you stay at our Vermont rental home, just down the hill is the West Branch stream for an early morning stroll and fish. It's not world class but it offers a scenic and classic fly fishing opportunity with mists rising from the meadows in early morning and maples shading the riffles.
But world class fly fishing rivers and streams surround us in Stowe, Vermont, while lake fishing and float fishing trips can be arranged easily through our local guides, The Flyrod Shop, which also has a complete fly-fishing equipment store just down the road from Stowe, and Catamount Fishing Adventures.
Some of our key New England fly fishing rivers that are easily reached from our Stowe house keeping rental accommodation are: the Lamoille, the Winooski, the Gihon, the North Branch, and the Dog.
Alpine Downhill Skiing Just Up The Road From Our Vermont Luxury Resort Home for Rent:
Alpine Skiing - Stowe has earned the title, "Ski Capital of the East" because it is home to Mt. Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak with the longest trails in the East. The high speed gondola brings you to the top in less than 10 minutes and ensures you spend more time skiing and less time in line.
The ski runs are on two separate mountains - opposite each other.
Stowe Mountain is also a favorite for snowboarders.
Lift Tickets: the concierge has lift tickets and they can be waiting for you in your house or the Concierge desk.
For up to the minute details about the two downhill mountains at Stowe, call 1-802-253-3000 http://www.stowe.com.
For ski rentals and overnight ski sharpening and waxing, the concierges can hook you up. Again, all along Mountain Road are ski rental and care shops: here is the one at the resort - Nordic Barn (just down the hill) 802-253-6433.
Cross Country Skiing from The Door of Your Stowe Vermont Vacation Rental:
This is prime cross country ski territory in Stowe. Just behind us on Topnotch property is about 15 km of trails. Just hop on them and go.
Then, easier, flat trails - about 15 Km - are just down the hill in the stream-side meadows and the Stowe Recreation Trail. The Nordic Barn looks after these trails for us.
Just 200 yards from your front door is the famous Catamount Trail. The Catamount is over 300 miles long and runs up and down the entire state of Vermont.
If you take this trail north for a mile, you end up in an excellent group of trails that go through Weissner Woods and the Gameroff Trails - a nature preserve with old growth, by maple sugar making shacks, and into the Edson Hill Trails and further on to the Sterling Valley trail systems.
So, from the front door of your Stowe vacation rental, you've got over 75 Km of back woods trails, some groomed, some not, to explore. The Gameroff Trails are dog friendly and looked after by local enthusiasts. At their heart you will find the warming hut - a sugar shack with pot bellied stove. The woods that you will be skiing/hiking through are varied hardwoods, pines, interspersed with mountain streams, meadow views, and 19th century fieldstone walls.
Then just up the road is the Stowe mountain set of groomed trails (pass required) that join up with the Trapp Family Lodge trails -- all giving you another, say, 75 km of groomed trails and at least 40 Km of back country. A valuable resource, if you'll be staying with us a while, is the Stowe Nordic Club at 802 253-4368
If you call the concierges, they can have a cross country ski map waiting for you.
Snowshoeing from The Back Door of Your New England Vacation Home:
From our front door you can head into the back woods or down into the stream side meadow. Again, you can really go forever from our New England vacation house - which, of course is the whole point of coming to a Stowe Vermont rental vacation house. When the moon is out, above Mt. Mansfield, there is enough light to go for a moonlit tramp through the maples. The snow in winter bounces back the light to create a yellow-blue world of shadows and light.
Ski and Snowshoe Rentals for Use While Staying at Our Resort Home :
Like almost everything at our resort home - ski and snowshoe rentals are available to the renters of our resort home by just taking a short walk down the hill at the Nordic Barn 802-253-6433.
Or alternatively ask the Topnotch concierges to fix you up and have your snowshoes or skis waiting for you at your rental house.
