Local Area Details

Situated between Cordes and Najac, Laguepie is at the confluence of the rivers Aveyron and Viaur. An area rich in history, medieval hill villages, castles etc. Wonderful walking country rich in wild flowers, orchids, birds, buterflies. Deer and wild boar sometimes seen. The hamlet is small and peaceful with virtually no traffic through it. Occasionally a retired farmer walks his cows past. Walkers and sometimes horseriders also pass through as there is a footpath here leading down to the Aveyron gorge and the GR36 footpath a few hours walk from the spectacular medieval fortress of Najac or to the village of Laguepie. Laguepie has shops, bars and restaurants. There are many activities be had such as horseriding, tennis, canoe and kayacking, fishing, swimming in the rivers or lakes. Golf is 1/2 an hour away at the cathedral city of Albi, home of Toulouse Latrec. Laguepie is well situated for exploring an area rich in architectural heritage, medieval hilltop villages, castles, monasteries and "bastide" towns dating around 12th Century. The wine growing region of Gaillac lies 1/2 hour to the South. There are colourful local markets on most days in the surrounding towns. The most spectacular are Sunday at St Antonin Noble Val and Villefranche de Rouergue on Thursdays. Throughout the summer there are music festivals and fetes in the villages. There are many good restaurants within driving distance to cater for all tastes. Why not come and sample this very pretty and unspoilt part of France.
