Local Area Details

Situated between Cordes-sur-Ciel and Najac, Laguepie is at the confluence of the rivers Aveyron and Viaur.It is in the heart of wonderful walking country rich in wild flowes , orchids, birds and wild butterflies. Sometimes wild deer or boar can be seen in the woods or fields.The hamlet is quiet and peaceful with the occasional walkers, horseriders and sometimes a farmer walking his few cows. There is a pretty footpath at the side of the house that leads down to the Aveyron Gorge. Here the GR36 takes you to Najac or to Laquepie by a walkers scenic route. The village of Laguepie 2km down a lane has bars shops and restaurants. It is overlooked by an ancient ruined castle.This is a great base to explore an area rich in architectural heritage with medieval hilltop villages, castles,monasteries and bastide towns often dating to 12th century. The wine area of Gaillac is just to the south. Albi with its cathedral, Toulouse Latrec museum and golf course is 30 mins. Sports include canoeing and kayacking, horseriding, fishing, tennis. Markets are held in nearby towns on most days . The most spectacular being at Villefranche de Rouergue and St Antonin Noble Val. Throughout the summer there are fetes and festivals. There are many restaurants in the area to cater for all tastes.
